Teaching
I have spent much of the last fifteen years in the classroom. In this time, I learned that the key to successful teaching is not oratorical brilliance or genius-level intellect, but rather a commitment to what I call "structural pedagogy." The classroom is a miniature society, with laws and culture and a diverse citizenry. The master teacher pays careful attention to the structures that make this society function well. He is more like the drafter of a constitution than a dictator, judge, or inspirational speaker--a careful, strategic thinker who creates and manages an inspiring learning environment.
